Soton must have protected themselves somehow. He failed the medical at qpr, even though they reported as passed.

Re: Charlie austin to southampton
He's got a 4.5 year contract after passing the medical. Perhaps the rumours about his dodgy knee were dodgy.

Re: Charlie austin to southampton
Good Luck to him, looks like the rumoured financial crises at QPR could have some truth (8m drop in value in 6 months) could have done well here but not sure I’d of given him a 4.5 year contract. Would rather go for Emmanuel Adebayor on a very short 6 month contract, could provide cover for Carroll and Sakho until the end of the season.

Re: Charlie austin to southampton
It's a good move for Austin & Southampton.

Many of Austin's family live in Bournemouth so the locality of the move makes sense as well as getting back in the premiership.

I would of liked him but what happened in the summer meant we were never realistically going to sign him and his wages are probably 60k a week which we won't have until we shift a couple.

Re: Charlie austin to southampton
He'd never have signed for us after sullivans comments about him. He'll have a celebration up his sleeve if he scores against us

Re: Charlie austin to southampton
Decent player but I'd much rather a clearly better striker than we already have here.

Proper outstanding striker.

Reckon he could Nick 8 goals before end of season, 4m is nothing!

Re: Charlie austin to southampton
We should have been all over that, he must have turned down a few places to go to Saints.

Re: Charlie austin to southampton
Confirmed by the Saints as a done deal.

I'd say we probably weren't interested cos we'll have far bigger fish to fry in the Summer and if the club land who they are after we wouldn't have room for a player like Austin on £60k a week plus.

It'll be interesting to see how this affect Pelle if at all considering we where sniffing around him in the Summer.

Doubt he was on silly wages they signed him in the fizzy

I'm loving this.

Everybody and his dog is scrambling around the market to find players to solve their problems and we're just sitting here going "Yeah?...And?"

Mad Dog 1:41 Sat Jan 16
Re: Charlie austin to southampton
Didn't he have 6 months left on contract. Probably on silly wages too

Re: Charlie austin to southampton
It must have been qpr's decision to sell as he told them he was going nowhere

Re: Charlie austin to southampton
I never rated Austin for 12million due to injuries...lack of pace etc...''But at 4 Million...would have been a good buy for cover...better than Jelavic...who could have been off 0n a big money deal.///

Re: Charlie austin to southampton
I suppose the gamble was on an England striker banging them in in the Championship (like Carlton!) and bringing them straight back to the land of Money.
Looks like they have realised that isn't going to happen.
Green is being pushed out the door as if he plays a few more games he earns a contract extension on his silly wages. Bournemouth supposedly interested which doesn't surprise me

Yet everyone's saying that we need to replicate exactly those traits, as shown by Sakho, for the times he's out.

4M in today's market and with next year's Premiership money (and the off-chance of CL qualification) is nothing. Worst case, throw him away when he breaks. He knows where the net is, has proved that, albeit only for one season) and has the motivation of the Euros to perform.

I can only think he is demanding playing time so he can consolidate himself in Roy's plans, because we are a far more attractive proposition than Southampton in both the long and short term.

Re: Charlie austin to southampton
QPRs gamble in the summer didn't pay off then. That's about 8 million quid they've lost by holding on to him.

Glad we've not gone for him. Plus I am sure he'll would freeze over first given his history with Sullivan

B6NY B 1:15 Sat Jan 16
Re: Charlie austin to southampton
4m, gutted we've not got him. Think he'd be spot on for us.
